Welcome to my blog. I’m SomeGuy and I’m a pretty average guy in his thirties living in the United States. I have a wonderful wife, SomeGal, and no kids.
After having regularly read many other blogs, typically personal finance related, I decided it was time to jump in. Hunting Happiness is mostly a personal finance blog, but it attempts to focus on values that come out of having good fiscal discipline. So at times topics may reach outside of traditional PF blog material.
Both SomeGal and I have “regular” full-time jobs. We also both have consulting/1099-MISC jobs and income sources. And most recently, each of us has our own real companies/businesses, although we help each other out. My business is in real estate investment, and SomeGal’s is completely different but for the sake of remaining anonymous I won’t go into more detail.
Earlier in life, I was preoccupied with status and appearance entirely too much. Unfortunately many folks our age seem to be in the same boat and I hope this blog can help others get out of that boat, too.
We were fortunate that finances didn’t get too far out of control, and to have seen very substantial growth in income and were able to dig out fairly quickly. We are now working to have our money “work for us” and focusing on longer term net worth with an eye towards a hopeful early semi-retirement. Semi-retirement means that I don’t see either of us without some kind of “job”; at least not until very late in life. But we would like to have fun jobs whose primary motivation is fun or charity, not income. And probably not typically working 40+ hours a week, either. We’d like to travel and spend more time with family so the “job” would have accommodate that.
This blog will detail the good and the bad as we head down that road.
